Product discovery in ecommerce is the way a shopper goes from a need, an occasion, or a vague idea to a specific product they can buy.
Discovery starts before the product page. The shopper has a reason to look and does not yet have a SKU. A gift for a person, a replacement for something that broke, an outfit for an event, a routine for a skin concern. The store's job in that moment is to narrow a catalog the shopper has not memorized.
Stores use three different tools for that narrowing. On-site search asks for words and returns a grid. Recommendations offer a list, sometimes the same list for everyone and sometimes a list tied to a product or a shopper. A conversation asks a question back and recommends from the catalog in the reply. Each tool fails in a different place. Search fails when the words do not match the tags. A static list fails when it ignores the occasion. A conversation fails when it recommends something the store does not sell, or when the shopper wanted a keyword box and got a chat.
"Product discovery" on a vendor's site can mean any of those three. Read which one the product actually does before you compare prices. A search app and an assistant can both claim the phrase. They do not do the same work, and they are not billed the same way.
A longer explanation of the idea is in AI product discovery, explained. The checklist for choosing an assistant, which is one way to do discovery, is on the AI shopping assistant page.
What Vorena charges
Vorena uses flat monthly plans with a conversation allowance. It is not unlimited. Only Lite ($29 a month, 100 products and 50 conversations) and Starter ($99 a month, 250 products and 500 conversations) can be bought today. A conversation counts toward the allowance when it starts, and the allowance resets monthly. At the limit, the Vorena chat is hidden from the store until the allowance resets next month or the plan is upgraded. Chats already under way can finish. Nothing on Lite or Starter charges for extra conversations. Growth and Scale are coming soon. Plan changes go through Shopify. The pricing page lists both plans.
